Hello, I need help, please. I recently purchased a Dell
computer that has Word Perfect Productivity pack
installed. I do not like Word Perfect so I tried to load
my Microsoft Office 97 and it will not work. I keep
getting this message, "Setup has searched your hard drive
and cannot find any of the qualifying products listed on
the Microsoft Office 97 box. I also have the disc
Microsoft Word 97 and get the same results with it. Is
there any way I can get this to work? I can not afford to
keep buying these programs. Thank you for any help you
can give me.

You need the disks from the previous word processor that you upgraded from when you bought 97.

"Setup has searched your hard drive
and cannot find any of the qualifying
products listed on the Microsoft
Office 97 box. I also have the disc
Microsoft Word 97

What it sounds like is that you have a version of 97 that
is an UPDATE. When Office 97 came out, MS charged you less if
you bought an "Update". That meant that you have a previous
version of Office on your system and instead of paying full
price for the Office 97; you got a price break if you updated
your old version (like Office 95) with an update.

Problem is; you have to have the "old version" on your
system OR have the disks for the old version so you can tell
your update 97 install disk; "hey, here is the "old version" /
qualifying product, now install".

If you dig through your old disks and thingies; maybe you
can find either a CD or diskette's that have Office 95 on
them, or MS Office on them; or even (possibly) Microsoft Works
diskettes or CD?

The original deal was:

Office 97 Standard Upgrade (competitive) - You qualify for
this if you are breathing (just kidding). You actually must
own:

Office Suites: any MS Office for Windows or Windows NT, any MS
Works for Windows, Borland Office 2.0, Corel WordPerfect Suite
7, Lotus SmartSuite 2.0 or later, Novell Perfect Office 3.0 or
later.
Word Processors: MS Word 2.0 or later for DOS, any MS Word for
Windows, Ami Pro for Windows, WordPerfect for DOS 4.0 or
later, any WordPerfect for Windows, WordPro 96, any version of
WordStar
Spreadsheets: any Excel for Windows, MS Multiplan, any Borland
Quattro Pro, Lotus 1-2-3 2.01 for DOS or later, any Lotus 1-2-
3 for Windows, SuperCalc 3.1 or later for DOS
Presentation Graphics: PowerPoint for Windows 2.0 or later,
Aldus Persuasion for Windows 2.0 or later, ASAP 1.0 or later,
ASAP WordPower 1.0 or later, Harvard Graphics for DOS 2.3 or
later, any Harvard Graphics for Windows, Lotus Freelance for
DOS 4.0, any Lotus Freelance for Windows, WordPerfect
Presentations for DOS 2.0, WordPerfect Presentations for
Windows 2.0 of later.
or: MS Schedule+ 7.0, MS Project 1.0 or later

Can you find ANY of those CDs or diskettes? If so; then
you can install Office 97 from what you have. :)
