Hello,

- A customer's WINDOWS 2000 SERVER with 5 cals is running in TERMINAL
SERVER - APPLICATION SERVER mode.
- TERMINAL LICENCE SERVICES have been activated calling MICROSOFT and
work fine.
I need to have 5 users to be able to run any application (WORD, EXCEL,
etc...) from MICROSOFT OFFICE 2000 SBE simultaneously : I've ordered a
5 users licence MICROSOFT OFFICE 2000 pack, I have unfortunatly
received 5 copies of MICROSOFT OFFICE 2000 (5 different keys).
I've installed the first CD using the special setup.exe line of
command and it works fine ... with the 5 users ???!!!
Here are my questions :
- Is it normal that with a single user licence of MICROSOFT OFFICE
2000 SBE, 5 users are able to work simultaneously with the same
application ? (each CLIENT opens WORD + EXCEL at the same time without
any problem).
- If it's not normal, in order to insure that I won't get a customer
call in the future, is there a way I can add my 4 unused keys to be
sure that I've got 5 licences available for MICROSOFT OFFICE 2000 on
the server ?

Thanks,
Philippe.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that you sound
like you are in compliance with licensing and you need not
worry. It is normal for Office to be multi-user friendly,
so the fact that multiple people can work on the
applications at once is no surprise to me.

However, you cannot add the other keys to your Office
installation, since the program was only setup to support
one key. These keys are important though, since they each
represent one license that you own, so if you were audited
one day, you could prove that while it only appears you
are using one copy of Office, you indeed have 5 licenses
for it.

Since I work at a university, we do the same thing. We
have one key code, but we have 50 licenses for 50 people.
While it appears we only have one copy of Office, we
indeed have a document that says we purchased 50 copies of
Office.

It's not a limb Matt! Many of my clients have multiple packs and I use the
same reg # on each for ease of installation (it's a txt file on their
server's s/w share). If there is enough licenses to cover the users I don't
think it's a real issue.
