I had to install Microsoft.net 1.1 in order to get another program to run
and now when I boot up, the login page comes up and I have to click on my
name to get winXP to continue to boot.

How do I get XP now to boot up without stopping at the login page? I am the
only user on the pc.

Thank you

If at all possible I would rather correct this manually without using any
3rd party software. Is this possible to do?

Start> Run> control userpasswords2
Select your account from the list. Uncheck box that user name/password is
required to logon. Click Apply and fill in the info on the screen that
appears. At the next logon, the welcome screen should be bypassed.

If in the future you need to log on with a different account, press Shift
while Windows is loading and the normal Welcome screen will appear.

Thank you very much Sharon, I give that a try.

This worked to stop xp from going to the login page on boot, but now when
the pc sits for a while and the screen saver comes on <set for 30 minutes>
when I move the mouse, bingo there is the login page again. Any idea how to
now stop this from happening? BTW I have hibernation turned off and the
monitor is set never to turn off.
Thank you

Display Properties> Screensaver: Uncheck the box next to "on resume,
require password."

A similar setting is in Power Options> Advanced: "Prompt for password when
computer resumes from standby."

I checked that and the box was unchecked., so I am still looking.

Do you have XP Pro? If yes, is it possible that the administrative tools
were configured a required logon?

For example:
Group Policy (gpedit.msc): Local Computer Policy\User
Configuration\Administrative Templates\Power Management\Prompt for password
on resume from hibernate /suspend.
