I have a Wireless Laser Mouse 5000 and it all of a sudden has reversed the
verticle motion. When I move it down the curser goes up and when I move it
up the curser goes down. There is nothing in the control panel to help, and
nothing in the software. The side to side motion works correctley. What do I
do?

Have you tried cleaning the mouse? Here's a page on how:

I don't use a wireless mouse, BTW, but I can't see why the same
maintainance routine shouldn't apply to them as well as "tailed" mice.

Unfortunately this is a laser mouse and nothing is servacable. I think it is
a software problem, but I can't find the place to fix it.

It has nothing whatsoever to do with wireless or 'tailed' mice.

You gave instructions on how to clean an old style mouse. The OP has a laser
mouse.. ie NO BALL

Have you got it set for a specific game?

Yeah, I must be getting old. ;-)

Thank you, Mike.

Hi Bill,
Do you have a Cat At Home?
I can't see why it is getting jumpy LOL

Did it worked before?
Try to Download the software for the mouse and reinstall it to correct the
malfunction of the Mouse, it may be dmaged or getting corrupt!

Wireless Laser Mouse 5000 and the download software for it:

Actually, cats, dogs, and humans can wreak havoc with optical mice. The
cause is a hair getting into the light path. I brush mine out with a
stiff-bristled paintbrush when this happens. You often can't see pet
hair (unless your pet is a porcupine) because it is so fine.

The symptoms are not a reversal of vertical movement, but a very
accurate emulation of the problems we used to get with dirt on the
rollers of ball-mice. Nothing ever changes.

Hello,

The best way to rule out a hardware fault is to connect the mouse to another
laptop or desktop. If it works there, then you can be certain it is a
software problem.

Have you changed the batteries? Even though you may not get the message that
they are bad, they could be. Have you moved the receiver to a new spot on
your desk? I moved mine once near my UPS and got random unexplainable (at
the time) behavior. Is there a game that you use where the axis is reversed
in the game? Maybe the game isn't releasing the mouse back to Windows'
control. Check task manager and see if an instance of the game is left
behind when the game is exited.

If none of that works, try disconnecting the receiver, wait 60 seconds, and
plug it back in. Does it still mess up? If so, hook up a standard mouse,
uninstall the IntelliPoint software, and reboot. Download the latest version
and install it. Shut down, unplug the standard mouse, plug in the 5000
receiver, and boot up. Windows should find it and open the setup screen. If
it still doesn't work, it may be the hardware itself.

I like the MS wireless mice (I have the Natural 6000), but I find the
software can go flaky at times. But then, no more so than the Logitech
software on my notebook, so I guess it's a wash on brand preference.

For some reason it just fixed itself and is now working corectly again.
Thanks for the help. I do have a cat and I did clean the laser port.
