I'm running Vista Ultimate and have the Microsoft Wireless Laser Desktop
6000 v2.0 mouse/keyboard duo. The Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 6000 has a
tilt wheel feature for horizontal scrolling. I reset the scroll wheel to
also act as a middle click button.

I play the Unreal Tournament 2004 first person shooter and use the middle
wheel button for alternate weapon fire mode. The problem is it is very hard
to click straight down on the wheel in the game to alternate fire my weapon.
If it tilts slightly its like not pressing anything at all and I don't
shoot. I use the left button to shoot regular mode, and the right button is
held down to run forward. My question is how to trick the mouse so
left/right wheel tilt acts the same as middle button? That way if I press
down off-center it still alternate fires. Just disabling horizontal
scrolling doesn't help because then it acts like a dead spot anyway when
pressed down tilted. Maybe there is a registry setting or something else?

Otherwise I will either switch back to my Logitech MX518 Gaming Mouse or
have to painfully retrain myself to use the right mouse button for
alternate fire and keyboard key for forward motion ;)

Here I go replying to my own messages again, LOL. Well I put away the
Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 6000 as a spare and I'm using my old Logitech
MX518 again, plugged into the PS2 port. I hate to split up the MS combo, but
I at least kept the Microsoft Wireless Laser Keyboard 6000 v2 on my new PC.
I just need the wheel button to work without any sideways dead spots in
Unreal Tournament 2004. Now I'm competitive again! Wish Microsoft would have
sold the 6000 v2.0 keyboard as a wired version by itself because I like the
programmable features and would hae just bought that. I did get the combo on
sale half price for $50 though. I also have the $20 Microsoft Comfort Curve
Keyboard on my other PC which is also real nice for the price.
