Greetings Fay,
It depends what you mean by Windows Messenger Service -- you could be referring to "Windows
Messenger", an instant messaging application which allows you to logon to the .NET Messenger
Service or the "Messenger Service", a built-in Windows service which provides "pop up"
messages.
If you mean Windows Messenger, you can just disable Windows Messenger by opening it up, click
Tools, Options, Preferences tab and unchecking 'Run this Program when Windows starts' or 'Run
Windows Messenger when Windows starts' (depending on version).
If you mean the "Messenger Service", you can disable it by clicking Start, then Run, type
"services.msc"and click OK. Scroll down to
"Messenger", select it, right-click and then choose Properties. Under startup type, choose
'Disabled' and then choose the 'Stop' button. After the service is stopped, click OK. Nothing
in Windows or any real third-party applications should be effected by this.
If you're not sure what you want to disable, there is no harm in disabling both of them.
