I am trying to update my software to ver. 2.04 but when it is installing it
gets almost to the end when it just stops and gives a message that it
encountered a problem and thats it, it just stops. I downloaded the software
from Microsoft and even did it a few times but still get the same result. Any
suggestions out there, Microsoft is no help they want you to spend $35 bucks
for a $30 dollar product for any help, typical.

Try run,type:services.msc Scroll to windows installer,start service,close
out
msc,retry the install.

I Tried your advice and nothing changed. It startes the process, askes if I
accept the terms and conditions then proceeds to install then at the end of
the process it stops and a window comes up and states "Setup cannot continue
because an unexpected error has occured" and thats it the setup is over.
Thanks for the suggestion. Is it ok to leave the installer process running or
should I stop it?

Thanks

Would also suggest that you clear out any and all temp folders, locate
program directories related to this unit and delete them, and if you are
comfortable with the registry remove the main registry references to it (I
don't have that hardware and don't know what they are, try searching for
lifecam).

Empty the recycle bin.

Power off, then restart, and try installing again.

Patrick;

I appriciate the advice. I went through entire hard drive and completely
searched all program/system directories for any temp folder & subfolders and
deleted them. I then went into the registry and searched for anything even
remotely associated with the camera and cleaned them out. Emptied the Recycle
bin and did a hard boot and tryed to install the driver update and still had
the same result as before. No go.

Thanks for the advise it was worth the try.

Negative! Tried installing the older version, but was given no choice
except to upgrade to the latest one. I got the camera and Windows Live
Messenger to work independently, but as soon as I try to make a video
call, I get static for sound and a "Windows Live Messenger has
encountered a problem and needs to close." The instant messaging feature
did work between my desktop and downstairs laptop however.

I go mine to work by uninstalling the drivers and then disconnecting
the cam. Reboot and then install the revised drivers while the cam is
not installed. When the driver install request it, reconnect the
cam. This "usually" corrects the software "links" between the
"imaging accessible" softwares
