when I open Outlook on my desktop, I get a box that says Microsoft LDAP box;
how do I get rid of that?

Specify your Outlook version, how you configured it and a more accurate
description of the message.

I am interested in this question as well. I have 16 computers running XP Pro
SP2 and MS Office 2003 Pro. 14 are new machines with clean installs. They
have no problems. The other two have been recently upgraded from Win 2000
Pro and Office 2000. One of the upgraded computers displays the MS LDAP Box
when Outlook starts. Clicking OK makes it go away, but when you select the
TO: button to add an address to a message, it wants to find it in an LDAP
directory. We do not use LDAP so an error is generated. Still not a big
problem, just select the contacts list in the drop down and away you go, but
this is not the way things are supposed to work, and the one machine with the
problem is our directors, and she would just as soon not see the error
messages. All of the fields in the LADP Box that could take data for LADP
are NULL and greyed out

Most likely you did an in-place upgrade without creating a new profile to
correct the problems upgrading causes.
