Is Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 243486 relevant also to Windows XP even if it si not stated in it
If not, is there any solution similar to that in article but working in XP?

You may want to try. However, the article describes the use of a tool
that is included in the Resource Kit for Windows 2000, so you first
have to get this software.

Hi

I would assume so, at least the tools referenced in the article is
available in the Win2k3 Server Resource Kit, and the help file
rktools.chm states this for Autoexnt.exe:

Windows Server 2003 operating systems
</quote>

A lot more about this tool is to be found in rktools.chm that
comes with the Win2k3 Server Resource Kit
