Hi, I have Windows XP and IE 6 and am no longer able to search from the
address bar. When I do I get "this page cannot be displayed" or "bad
gateway". I found some info on the Ask Dave Taylor site and did what he
suggested. I ran three different Spyware programs to get rid of the Spyware
and I also changed the default in the registry - "HKEY CURRENT USER",
"Software\Microsoft\Internet xplorer\SearchURL", to
"http://home.microsoft.com/access/autosearch.asp?p=%s", but neither of these
helped, and Dave doesn't have any more suggestions other than getting rid of
extra tool bars, which I don't have.
If anyone has any other suggestions I would really appreciate them.
Thanks so much, tj

Hi tj,
Using the ICQ search toolbar? or the Cool Web Search toolbar (forgot who the
vendor of this one is). If you have installed one of these then why are you
still using it if you have address bar searching? You will need to remove
and uninstall either of these two bars before applying the registry fix
below.

Hi Rob,
Thanks for responding. I don't have any extra tool bars or search tool
bars, just the regular tool bar. I was able to search from the Address Bar
and then all of a sudden it didn't work anymore. Do you (or anyone else)
have any other suggestions?
Thanks, tj

Hello tj,

If nothing helps, you may consider installing the alternative address bar
Quero Toolbar www.quero.at which is an address & search bar combination.
