I just bought one of the microsoft intellimouse explorer mice that has the
two small buttons on the side that are used to navigate around the web
easier. I installed the Intellipoint software (v5.0). The software lets me
select which function I want to assign to those thumb keys. I remember
having a similar mouse my computer at work a few years back that allowed me
to program those thumb keys with a custom function. I cannot seem to
remember how to do that. The only options seem to be those 15 to 20 that
they make available in the pulldown menu. Was this a feather of an earlier
version of the Intellipoint Software? If so, does anyone know how to get
ahold of it?

I don't know, was it a MS mouse?

If you want to try earlier Setpoint version(s) I might be
able to dig up something... how many years back? One other
issue might be what will or won't work with (WinXP?) the OS.
IIRC I have a few versions that go back to at least '96 but
not version 1, and I don't recall what the oldest is that'll
work with XP, or do any/all of them?

The one I had before was also a microsoft explorer mouse (dunno which
version, but it did have the two thumb buttons). I was using it with Win2k
and the driver tool let me set up alternate profiles for each aplication. In
other words, when I ran Word, the thumb keys would do one macro,
when I ran Excel, they'd do something else altogether.

LOL.

I wrote "Setpoint" earlier having Logitech on the brain but
I meant Intellipoint, I have many older versions and if you
can determine which you want I'll dig 'em out.

Here's v 4.12, 10MB d/l
http://www.download.com/Microsoft-I...T-2000-XP-/3640-2110_4-10226352.html?sb=3&v=0
& 3.2, 4MB

AFAICT, version 2.x didn't even support Win2k/XP, which
isn't surprising as it was roughly '97-'99 era.

They downgraded the options for the thumb buttons in 5 and don't seem to
give a sh t that they made a bunch of customers dissatisfied.
