I have recently bought a new pc which came with Windows

I also have a Microsoft Optical Mouse and have noticed
that when i switch my computer off, the mouse light stays
on.
Does anyone have any idea why this is?

The mouse transmits but doesn't recieve any signals so the mouse is always
on and is never told to shut down. If you don't move it after awhile it
will go into a slumber mode and wake up with motion whether the pc is on or
off

It's normal

The port that your mouse is connected to is still providing power for
wake-up purposes.

If you want to disable this (you'll lose the above functionality), consult
your motherboard manual.

Thanks for the replies but because i bought my computer
from a retailer and it wasnt custom built, i didnt get a
motherboard manual. I have had a look in the BIOS and
disabled all wake up things to do with Mouse and Keyboard.

Some motherboards also require the manipulation of jumpers to completely cut
off flow of power to the ports in question (I know Asus does this and some
others also do this).

When you "shut down" your computer, you aren't really turning it off.
Many components within it are still getting a trickle of power, for
things like WOL and the like. Your mouse is still getting power via
the USB port it's hooked up to.

You want it to shut down completely, then kill the power at the
source: either the wall plug or the power strip on/off switch.

The Microsoft wireless Intellimouse Explorer will stay on for a time
after the computer is shut down. It wakes up when you move it. Try
taking it into another room and seeing how it works when it can't see
the receiver. But it never turns off and eats up batteries like crazy.

Sorry to be such a pain but, it is only recently this
problem has started to occur. I noticed it with my other
pc and it started doing it with this one. And another
thing, when i have my mouse plugged in via USB, my
computer will not shut down. Its gets as far as "Windows
is shutting down" and then hangs.

Any idea's on this?
