Since loading microsoft windows updates my Microsoft
Intellimouse Optical dies after a few minutes! I can find
no solution.A Logitech M-C48 mouse continues working
happily.

Hi,

How did it die?
No light in the mouse or what?

Have you tried to re-install the MS Intelli Optical mouse drivers?

Have you tried to use the restore feature to roll back the OS prior to the update?

Hello Peter
The mouse lights go out. They reactivate when you press
buttons or wheel but nothing happens on the screen with
the pointer. When laid on its side the light them dims
and remains on. I removed the driver and reinstated the
driver from the microsoft website. It starts to work
again and then dies within 3 minutes. I have virus
checked with McAfee and Freedom with no result. I have
not rolled back XP Home fearing I'd be removing security
patches.

Dear Donald
It doesn't have batteries. Its linked by a usb cable.
Eric

One of the MS optical wired mouses has a known problem with a cable
break just inside the case at the stress relief. It is documented
somewhere on the MS Intellimouse site and there was a published
replacement policy for it AIRC.
