Hi, I have had MDIS 2006 for a few years. I use the photo editing often but
almost never use the project capabilities (making greeting cards, etc).
Today I tried to make a greeting card but when I click on "create new
project" either from the file menu or from the common tasks frame, nothing
happens! Just nothing. This occurs whether I have a picture open or not. I
registers the "click" but nothing opens--no timer or "working on it" sign or
anything--it's almost as if the program thinks it opened the right frame and
is waiting for me to click the next steps. Help!!

Are you running WinXP or Vista?

Try reinstalling DIS 2006.

I am running Windows XP. If I reinstall, will it affect the pictures I have
in my picture library? (like wipe them out?) Thanks!

It won't wipe out your pictures, which are only catalogued in DIS library.

You may want to save your current picture.pd3 file so's you don't have to
re-catalogue after re-install if the re-install does overwrite the pictures.pd3
file.

==================================
Your pictures are not *in* the library...it simply
records the path to the current location of the
files...typically the My Pictures folder. This info
is stored in a database called Pictures.pd3
along with thumbs and other metadata.

Unless the Pictures.pd3 database was manually
deleted...the library will be repopulated just
as it is now after the reinstall. If the Pictures.pd3
file is manually deleted you may lose your tags
and the library will have to rebuild the database
when it is reinstalled.

Just for safe keeping...you might want to make
a copy of your Pictures.pd3 file.

Try the following :

Go to...Start / Search...and do a search for:
Pictures.pd3

If you don't find it...open a
folder and go to...Tools / Folder
Options / View tab...

Tick..."Show hidden files and folders" / Apply / OK.

Now search again...

Also, the following path will lead you to it:

C:\Documents and Settings\>username<\Local
Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\POD\Pictures.pd3

I posted a reply and suggested copying pictures.pd3 as a backup before the
re-install so no chance of losing the Library settings.

I see you did the same "just to be safe".

Is there much(any) chance of the pictures.pd3 being overwritten when
re-installing DIS 2006 or is it just my paranoia showing through?<g>

Hi Gord...

Pictures.pd3 is not affected when the program
is uninstalled. As I previously offered...unless
the .pd3 file is 'manually' deleted...the library
will be repopulated as it was before.

The reason .pd3 is not overwritten on the
reinstall is because the file is not even created
until the program is launched. If an existing .pd3
is detected...the program accesses it.

Keeping a copy (backup) of the .pd3 file is simply
for insurance purposes.

Cheers.

I have same problem with the "Create New Project" as nothing happens when I
click on the icon or from the file menu. I re-installed and still nothing.
Now what?

Gary

Also, I have the full retail box version with two discs (Suite version). The
problem started when I installed the SP1 onto Vista.
