This is partially off subject, but appropriate in that, like Vista,
Microsoft has made a complicated mess out of something that should be
simple and straightforward. It really makes one wonder if there is
anyone at Microsoft who has any concept of the proper design of user
interfaces and program work flow.
I have had MSDN subscriptions since the inception of the program. This
year, Microsoft has changed the registration procedure so that one takes
an estimated 10 minutes to complete many pages of information that
repeatedly request the entry of some of the same information; for
example, a name and address. The program hung and it was necessary to
ask for assistance by telephone.
The person who finally answered the phone was polite, knowledgeable and
helpful. He did, however, comment multiple times that "that's a glitch".
The extremely complex and lengthy registration process was finally
completed. This mess has replaced what was formerly a simple telephone
call with the customer providing a name, address and a credit card number.
