I am trying to download and install Microsoft Defender on a computer running
WindowsXP (SP3) as well as Microsoft Defender, among others. After I click
install, I get an error message that reads: "Microsoft Client Protection has
been found. Please remove that product and rerun setup."

I have done a "Search", and I find no product on this system called
"Microsoft Client Protection". I have also, booted into safe mode to see if
I could install the program, but was not successful.

Can anyone tell me just what I need to do to remove Microsoft Client
Protection so I can install Defender? Many thanks for your help.

That name might include
Microsoft Security Essentials, or
Microsoft Forefront Client Protection.

If you have either of these, or Microsoft Live OneCare installed, don't
install Windows Defender-- it isn't needed.

Thanks for your help. I wont worry about it now.
