There is a problem with updates - multiple posts have been made in here. Can

I totally agree. The front page of the system says "System Running
Normally"....which it clearly isn't.
After I posted another message on this subject, I was asked to fill in
questionnaire about MS and about this service. I didn't pull punches!
Surely someone somewhere in authority at MS knows there is a problem, can
acknowledge it, and give us some idea of timescale for a cure......including
any possible knock-on problems caused by this malfunction.

It is interesting that MS has not responded to this problem yet! Where is the
MS support team? HELP... we need answers, or at least an acknowledgement that
they have a server problem..??

Something about this updating issue doesn't make any sense. On my
desktop I can click update and it goes to the server and checks and
informs me that it is up to date. Sitting right beside it is a notebook on
the same network. I click Update and receive the "Cannot connect
to the Internet Message" only on the notebook.
Both computers have 1.0.701 and have 5783 definitions. The only
difference is the port connection. On my desktop it uses higher order
ports (2000-3000). On the notebook it uses (1000-1500).

Contrary to what you may have seen posted by non-microsoft forum posters, the
anti-malware technology team at Microsoft does watch and hear these newsgroups.
What they don't do is post response to postings, undoubtedly because Ms
corporate policy generally prevents support of Beta products.
"I also want to thank those customers who are giving us feedback on Beta 1
through the community newsgroups. We hear your feedback and are incorporating it
into the development of Windows Defender Beta 2, which we expect in a couple of
months. Right now our biggest priority is getting Windows Vista out the door."
