I turned on the computer today and found the Microsoft
automated updates had downloaded a program called "AV
Gold Microsoft Antivirus spyware". This program has taken
over my system, despite having an active firewall and
virus program running. The program has a large desktop
icon that keeps me from directly accesing my desktop
icons -I need to open programs from my start menu
instead. I was able to uninstall the actual program from
the control panel "Add/Remove" feature, but the large
icon is a permanent feature of the desktop. My homepage
needs to be reset each time I log into the internet, the
pop-ups have become worse with each hour. I did run both
my virus and previously installed adware programs.
I'm to the point of re-formatting my drive. Where did
this program come from? Is it the beta version of
Microsoft's spyware? If so, it's not very user friendly
at all! If not, then my virus and firewall should have
caught this.
Any suggestions on how to get rid of it without
reformatting the drive?
