We have observed sporadically that following a recent Windows 2000
automatic update to some of our institution's PCs, a new user profile
directory is created. When a user logs in to the workstation, the user
is associated with this new profile directory. The result is that the
user appears to lose his/her custom settings and locally stored files.
I.T staff must then change the profile directory path in the registry
to reflect the original profile directory location.
We believe that this problem is associated directly with the automatic
update, but we have not experienced it consistently and it is not yet
widespread.
Has anyone else seen a similar problem or can anyone point out
information about this?
Thank you.
