Hi,

I recently baught a new computer with windows xp. I am
quite a novice when it comes to computers so please
excuse me if I sound stupid. The problem is that my
windows xp does not contain applications like Microsoft
Word, Excel, Powerpoint etc. I only have Microsoft Works.
I was wondering if there was any way I could obtain all
the usual applications.
Thanks.

Windows XP is an "operating system". Unless you specifically ordered, and paid for,
Microsoft Office, it is not installed on your new computer by the computer vendor.

What's in the Office Editions?

That's correct. Neither Windows XP, nor any other version of
Windows, has ever come with any of these nor with any other
significant application software.

If you want these, you need to buy them, either alone, as part of
Microsoft Office.

I only have Microsoft Works.

That too doesn't come with Windows. However the vendor you
bought the computer from apparently chose to bundle it with the
package he sold you.

There are no "usual" applications. You may buy whatever
applications *you* want.
