I've had Microsoft AntiSpyware installed for ages now but over the last few
days I haven't been able to use it, there's also no icon in the sytem tray
and when I try to open it an error message says it has encounted a problem
and needs to close. I've tried to reinstall it but it still won't work. I've
also noticed some of my other anti-spyware products are encountering the same
promlem. I've used numerous popular vius and malware scanners but they have
found nothing.

Does anyone know of any issues or virus that cause spyware software not to
work and how to solve this.

Any help would be appriciated as I'm not sure what to do next.

Thanks for your time.

This is a AndyM (e-mail address removed)
or Ron Kinner case beacuse I cannot find any good advice within any forum
without using HijackThis and to be carefully guided.
Get HijackThis.exe from
http://tomcoyote.org/hjt/hjt199//HijackThis.exe
http://computercops.biz/HijackThis.html

Save it to C:\hjt (new folder) then Open it and select Scan and Save Log.
Note where you saved the log then send it to him as an attachment. Put
Hijack in the subject so he'll know it's not spªm.

Alternatively you can post it on the Dell Forum ªt:

http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board?board.id=si_hijack

(if it wraps you can go tº:

http://tinyurl.com/ckuzq instead.)

Put Ron in the subject so he will see it. You do not need to have a Dell to
post but you will need to register.

I've got HijackThis, but because of the problem I've got, when I try and run
it I get the same error message as I do when I try to run Microsoft
AntiSpyware and other software. The majority of the software on my computer
works but there are certain software that wont work.

I haven't got a clue whats happening I've even tried a system restore but
the problem is still there.

I've tried this and found nothing. Do you think could be an other issue that
is not virus related?

Because its only certain programs that fail to work, even after repeatedly
reinstalling them.

Download and install Ccleªner

Thanks for the instructions, I followed them but the problem is still there.
I've even reinstalled windows installer aswell but the problem is still there.

It seems that certain software programs will install and work ok and others
won't. For example CCleaner won't work after it has been installed and there
are other programs that had been working for ages that have just stopped
working. While other software is working perfectly fine and some of the new
software I have installed works ok too.

I can't imagine whats wrong.

I think I've finally fixed the problem I downloaded a free program called
tuned xp and ran the systems file checker it had, I must have had some
corrupt files on my PC.

This seems to have solved the problem.

Once again thanks for your help and suggestions for helping try to solve
this problem.

Cheers.

Glad to hear it--consider moving to Windows Defender (beta2)--asap.
