Spyware keep removing "my Favorites from the Internet
explorer. Is ther a simple way to stop it?

Can you clarify this a bit?

Do you mean spyware has removed your favorites, or do you mean that
Microsoft Antispyware has removed them?

What folder names do you use for your favorites? There are clear reports
that Microsoft Antispyware removes some specific folder names when
found--gambling, for example.

Microsoft AntiSpyware seems to remove "My Favorites" when
ever it runs. Fortunately I have a copy so using the
windows explorer I ca copy it back but it is pain in the
butt to do it three times a week. I vaguely remember
seeing an article that tells how to set something in the
program (Microsoft AntiSpyware)to stop it but I can't
find the article. The path for my favorites is:
C:\Doccuments & Settings\Dr. Kay\Favorites\My Favorites.
Any insight on how to set the program to eliminate the
problem?
Thanks
DK

I checked the web site and it appears that the issue was
in the registry which looked OK (%USERPROFILE%
\favorites. Any other ideas?
Thanks,
DK

I haven't spotted the checkpoint that is responsible for
this (bad!) behavior, but here's what I'd suggest trying:

rename "my favorites" to "Dr K's Favorites"

I believe that will rename the folder but if it doesn't
I'd do that explicitly as well.

I suspect this is a rather short-sighted detection based
on some spyware which uses that folder name. I hope they
can eventually remove such detections from the product.

Can you tell from the scan reports what microsoft
Antispyware said that it was removing, when it removes
this item?

Follow up to my previous. I misunderstood your last
statement. It is removing all the URLs (My Favorites).
Does that help you in your analysis?

I did this yesterday based on your previous. I have to
give a few days to see what happens.
Thanks
Dave

Terrific--I think that will take care of the issue.

There are a number of malware threats that use particular folder names in
Favorites to put in place their own links. The current product in several
cases simply deletes favorites folders with these particular
names--"gambling" as an example.
