I am not able to download the antispyware software. I
just keep getting an error message. I am getting an
error message that says "not a valid win 32 application"

Your download is corrupt or truncated. Delete what you have already
downloaded. Empty your "Temporoary Internet Files", then download it afresh
from Microsoft.

When the download is complete, right click on it, select "Properties", and
check that the Digital Signature is valid. If the digital signature is
valid, then your download was good.
