I have just downloaded Microsoft Antispyware and it will not install. It will
start installing then when I get 15 seconds into it, it suddenly disappears
off my desktop(screen). What happened?

Hello;

Describe the environment in which it occurs (machine, OS, application,
whatever).

Describe the diagnostic steps you took to try and pin down the problem
yourself before you asked the question.

Describe any recent changes in your computer or software configuration that
might be relevant.

I have the same problem. Sometimes it will get as far as the agreement part
of the install then it just disappears from my screen.
I had it installed and was having problems with it not running it, I would
click on it to run and it would start to load and then poof - be gone. In
Safe mode
it ran fine but it did not see anything wrong with my system in safe mode. I
decided to unintall and then reinstall program but it disappears and cannot
be reinstalled. I broke down and bought Xoft Spy and found some problems, AVG
found a Trojan
but the program still will not install.

I did recently get a trogan horse and have since got rid of it using AVG
If that is of any help.

Same thing happened to me---exactly. I originally downloaded MS Antispyware
a few weeks ago---on advice of a shop tech. Ran scans & all. Then, all of a
sudden, target symbol stopped appearing at startup. Same with symbol for
McAfee Security Center (w/ Antivirus 2005)---also recently purchased &
loaded. When I did manage to get into latter, showed AV was disabled. Ran a
new AV scan & it came up clean. (???) What is happening? I followed MS Group
advice to Uninstall MS Antispyware. That was successful. But impossible to
download again. Another very suspicious sign: recently computer did a "Turn
Off" &"Restart" while I was working---without any prompt from me.

A friend suggested downloading AVG antivirus (free trial version) & running
McAfee Stinger. I ran both. Last time I ran McAfee Antivirus 2005 it showed
no infected files. But today AVG found & deleted 5 (five) infected files: 2
Script viruses: SeXy.pif & syshost.exe; 1 Trojan Horse Downloader
5CE95429-E4F3; 2 Trojan horses Backdoors: csrss.exe & smss.exe. After scan I
was able to download and run MS Antispyware. And now my computer appears to
be A-OK again, thank God and a more tech-savvy friend.
