When I install the antispyware and it goes through to the setup assistant. It
says that I'm not connected. But I am online. It happens right when I click
yes for automatically keep me updated.

Hello Jason,
Proceeding as follows has fixed this for others:

1) Uninstall Microsoft Antispyware
2) delete \program files\microsoft antispyware and all subfolders. You will
lose access to any quarantined items, history, and custom settings.
3) reinstall Microsoft Antispyware, taking care to be sure you are using the
current version download, and that you are logged in as administrator.

I hope this post is helpful, let us know how it works ºut

1) do you see the setup assistant each time you open the program?
2) What happens if you go to file, check for updates?
3) can you go to Help, About, and hit the diagnostics button, and respond
with the line which ends in a pair of numbers with a / between--what are the
two numbers?

1)Yes I see the setup everytime I launch the program
2)When I check for updates the program just freezes.
3)There isn't a help link for me to click

OK--I think there's something significantly "hosed" (technical term) about
your install.

Here's what I'd try first:

Shut down Microsoft Antispyware by right-clicking on the notification area
icon and choosing shut down, if possible.

Delete or rename \program files\microsoft antispyware\gcUserData.gcd

Then restart Microsoft Antispyware. You will get the setup wizard again,
but with luck, this will be the last time.

Then see whether you can open the program and go to File, Check for updates,
followed by Help, about, as in the earlier message.

IF THAT FAILS:

next idea:

1) Uninstall Microsoft Antispyware
2) Delete \program files\microsoft antispyware and all subfolders. You will
lose access to any quarantined items, history, and custom settings.
3) reinstall Microsoft Antispyware from a current version download, taking
care to be logged in as an administrator.

If you get stuck anywhere in that process--write back--and let me know how
it goes, in any case.

I deleted the \programfiles\microsoftantispyware\gcuserdata.gcd file and the
same thing is happening. Whatn I launch the program and it automatically goes
to microsoft antispyware setup assistant. It asks me if I want to start the
automatic updater. I click yes then next, then that's it the program freezes.

OK - I'd go on to 2nd idea--the uninstall routine--remember to delete the
installation directory/folder--that's the key part of that advice.

I did that already. A few times.

Hmm--you said that you don't see any help link? That seems to indicate that
theres some conflict that is pretty significant.

Try this, just to see whether it helps:

1) Open up a command prompt (start -> run -> cmd)
2) Type in the following "regsvr32 msvbvm60.dll" (without the quotes).
3) Close and re-open Windows AntiSpyware

That didn't work
