Microsoft Antispyware: How effective is it?

I am wondering about this above program,I have it in my computer and I have
two questions about it:

1- How effective is it?,and is it worth it to run it in the background?
2- Am I going to have to pay for it when it expires? (and it says it expires
Dec 31,2005)

If this is the wrong forum for this question,I apologize,but I think here is
where we find people with real hands-on experience.

My computer: Dell,Pentium4,1.9 Mhz,WindowsXP Home edition,SP2
 
A1. Very & yes, but it's still in Beta1.

A2. When released, MWAS will be available at no charge to individual owners
of valid Windows OSS in which MWAS is supported. (Win2K and up).
