Microsoft Antispyware Beta

Every single time I run this, the antispyware finds the very same Keylogger
program. That's EVERY SINGLE TIME! Even if I run it, clean the Keylogger,
then just go directly to Windows Update, which isn't secure, but should at
least be safe, and then run the antispyware again (immediately), it's there
again! Can there be something else lurking? Computer Associates anti-virus
finds nothing, and I clean using Ad-ware. Also use spy-bot.

Hi Alex,
First look in Add/Remove programs for it, as it's not a virus but a spyware.

You haven't told us if you ran a full deep MSAS scan in Safe boot mode, cleaned
your prefetch files, cleaned your temp files, or as a final step once removed,
cleaned out your Restore files and start the restore backups over again.
Getting to Safe mode:

CCleaner
http://www.ccleaner.com/

Try that first, then let us know if the problem is still with you. Meanwhile
don't use online Credit Cards, Bank access, etc. and depending on where the log
files are being sent you might have to change all your passwords/card accounts.
Usually commercial keyloggers cannot be remotely installed, so ask whoever has
access to your computer, but you didn't mention which keylogger either, so you
might google it for more info...

You might also tell us the precise details of what is found--it is possible
that this is a false positive of some sort.

Such false positives don't usually persist over very many definition cycles,
however--are your definitions updating properly?

Thanks to all for good advice.

I tried everything which was suggested, including running MS Antispyware in
safe mode until it came out clean. However, it soon found the NetSpy
Keyloggers again.

I tried the Malware removal, but got completely hung up on step 1: the
"reference" scan never worked because extracting the Hijack This! Zip file
always came back with a "corrupted file" message.

However, the advice in step 7 which directed me to Ewido Security seems to
have done the trick. On the first scan, it found and removed (what I assume
to be) the same six items. Subsequent scans with Ewido find nothing. But
please note: MS Antispyware keeps finding the same six NetSpy Keyloggers.

So, I've got to assume that MS is constantly giving me the same false
positives. So thanks for directing me to Ewido!!

Glad we could be of some help, even if it didn't involve getting Microsoft's
product to both work properly for you and do the job needed.
