Microsoft altering XP with updates?

I had a leximark X63 successfully working for one year
and when I initally installed it on XP no warning came
up. Recently my computer has caused my printer to go off
line and says I have to remove the printer hardware or I
will have a shut down. Each time I reboot my printer it
now has a warning this is not an approved microsoft
printer. Microsoft must have updated my XP to do this.
Has this happened to anyone else and if so this somehow
seems very wrong to after the fact alter our programs to
do this. Is there a way around this and is there a
rebellion against this? THX

I have not come across this problem before but that does not mean that
others have not had the same problem.

I would:
download the de-install cleanup utility and the latest XP driver from
Lexmark's www site;
http://downloads.lexmark.com/cgi-perl/downloads.cgi

delete the printer driver now installed using Control Panel Printers and
Faxes Delete Printer;

run the clean-up utility;

install the new driver according to the instructions on the web page and
on-screen during the installation.

That should do it. Let us know.
