microsoft active sync

I am trying to install microsoft active sync but the
instalwise program wont startuntill the computer is
shutting down. every time i want to shut down a program
starting with IA in system32 says its not responding and i
have to click on end now to shutdown

This won't help immediatly but I noticed that someone else has just posted
the same problem over on the news group..

microsoft.public.windowsxp.general

They posted this message at 10.30 on the 13th May...
