Microsoft Access Logon

When I try to open any new or existing dbs in Access, I am asked for my name and password
However I don't know what these are, as I think think I must have inadvertly caused this when
I was looking at at an database permissions yesterday

Any ideas what I can do
 
Either (a) you have changed the password for the user Admin in the default
Access workgroup file (SYSTEM.MDW), or (b) you have changed the default
workgroup to point to another file.

First, find SYSTEM.MDW. It will be either in C:\Windows(WinNT)\System(32)
or in C:\Program Files\Common Files\System, depending on your versions of
Access and Windows.

Next, run the Access Workgroup Administrator (Start > Run > "wrkgadm"
<enter>). This will tell you the name of your current default workgroup
file. If it is different from the SYSTEM.MDW file above, then you have
problem (b), so click Join > Browse and find the correct SYSTEM.MDW file.

If it is already pointing to the correct file, then you have problem (a).
If you cannot remember the password you put on Admin, then you will need to
restore a fresh copy of SYSTEM.MDW from your installation CD.
 
Hi DOL,
I don't know. Over 2 yrs ago I monkeyed with my security and created a
password logon when I open Access 2000. I don't know what I was
thinking, as I am a single non-networked user. Anyway, I don't know how
to make this logon disappear. What's particularly vexing is that once I
input the password I can open any number of other databases I've
created. When I installed this password so long ago, I had the idea
that I was securing only one specific database, not the application
itself.
The real kick in the butt is when I copy my database to CD and take it
to a friends computer who has access also, it opens without the logon
prompt! Evidently, I've just secured my computer, not the db file!
If you hear anything useful, and you probably will, will you let me know
also?

Hi Steve,

Access user security is session based. Every time you open Access you are
using security. That is, it uses a workgroup file named system.mdw and
silently logs you in as a user named 'Admin'.

You set a password for this username; that is what triggers the login dialog
to appear. Since you know the password, once you log in go to Tools,
Security, Accounts, and click on Change password. Change the password back
to null/blank.
