Word version? "Microsoft 98" must be your Windows OS version, because
the Word application skipped from "... 97" to "...2000" then "...XP"
(there was an Outlook 98 though). Do you even have Word, as it does NOT
normally come with Windows? If you don't have Word, Windows MAY be
attempting to open Word documents with the Wordpad application that does
come with Windows.

Quantity of Main RAM? How much, if any, used by your video accelerator?

How much free space on the drive your swap file is on?

Diana, your message is very confusing. When you ask for help, please be very
explicit and accurate in your description of the problem. It's very hard to
help when we can't understand the question.

For information on how to make a good newsgroup posting, read

I have a number of documents

What kind of documents? What are their extensions (the last three charcaters
of the file name, after the dot)? Do documents with other extensions open?

What happens when you try? If you get an error message, please quote it
verbatim.

What photos? What extensions?

Also l cannot open microsoft
word.

How are you trying to open it? By clicking on a shortcut to it, or by
clicking on a doc file?

It says l do not have enough memory but there is plenty.

How much is "plenty"? How much do you have? Have you turned off or limited
the size of the page file in some way?

not connected to the internet, the other computer is.

What other computer? Is the other computer a factor in this problem? Why?

It is

What is "Microsoft 98"? Do you mean "Windows 98"? Which computer is running
Windows 98, the one with the problem or the one without? If the computer
with the problem is running Windows 98, you should be asking in a Windows 98
newsgroup, not in here in microsoft.public.windowsxp.basics.
