i have a pcline webcam with built in microphone but the
microphone doesnt work. have I got to install a speech
engine or a driver or something? any help would be much
appreciated. thanks.

Change the default Microphone in the Sounds and Audio Devices Control
Panel. click on Voices and change 'Voice recording device'.
