I plug in microphone to my computer which operates on
windows 2000 professional, but can't record voice on Sound
Recorder. The microphone works on another computer that
operates on windows XP. I tried the volume control and
select/un-mute the microphone and put it at the highest.
But still doesn't work. Any suggestion to make it work ??

did you try a decibel increase? or see if there's an
update of drivers for your sound card.

I have checked, there is no update of drivers for my sound
card. what is decibel increase and where is it ?? Thanks
in advance !

Well the newer windows o/s such as xp have an
advanced settings. You can activate them by going to play
control (double-clicking the speaker icon in your task
bar), then go under options and clicking advanced
controls. once that is activated, under the microphone
there is a button that says advanced. If you click that, a
window will pop up and you will see an option for other
controls. there's a box to click for something called mic
boost (+25 decibels).
Most of the time that will help if you can't hear
your microphone. Otherwise, I'd check if you plugged the
microphone into the right input. If the computer has a
soundcard, sometimes if you plug the microphone into the
mic plug of the onboard sound instead of the soundcard,
the microphone won't work. Sorry if this is confusing but
maybe this will help.
