My microphone is always on and I wonder is this is a problem with
Vista Home Premium or with the Vista driver from Auzentech? I think
it may be causing feedback thatI do not wnt. In XP PRO the microphone
only worked when required by an application.

Hi Alfred,

Actually, in XP it would always be monitoring as well. Whether or not you
would hear anything depends on what has control of the output. Probably the
simplest solution would just be to use a microphone that has an on/off
switch on it.

Rick's comments notwithstanding, it may be possible to mute the mic via
sound card PROPERTIES

Right-click the speaker icon at the bottom-right of the screen and
locate a RECORDING tab. Enable another device, other than the mic,
which may kill the mic for your purposes.

This may not apply to your sound card, or record enabling may be handled
in a different manner.
