Microphone in MSN Messanger

Hi
I have a headset. I have a Gateway Laptop. My headset works when I'm on the road and using my GPS program. When is an INSTANT message through MSN and I try to use the audio feature... the other party can not hear me. The mic works when I go through the audio wizard setup. I have looked at the settings in control panel and nothing is "muted". Please help, I don't know what else to try and this is a way that I communicate with my parents

I can not think of any reason it will not work other then trying to turn off
the firewall as this might work, I use mine (not a headset just a mic) but
works fine.
 
Well I had the same problem and scanned about 40 or 50 of these messages and found that no one ever solved there problem and got back to the group. Either they solved the problem and didn't have the courtesy to let others know how they did it or they are still fumbling around with the same unsolved mystery. Well I'm here to tell you that I solved my problem by downloading the latest version of DirectX 9.0b. The mike is working great now! Hope this helps all you other people
