why can I not get win2K to "hear" the microphone input? sound recorder
keeps telling me that "Your audio hardware cannopt record into files
like the current file. To record, create a new document." When I do so
(file new), this like wise fails. What is going on? I have the latest
via '97 4in1 drivers loaded...

open the volume control in the systray, make sure the microphone does not
have Mute checked...
OR open cntrl pnl/sounds & multimedia, audio properties.Mic should show a
preferred device, if not, browse for one.
and.what sound card is installed ?

Thanks for the reply - the sound system is on the ASUS mobo, no other
soundcard is installed. it's the via '97 chipset system. Ihvae
installed the latest 4in1 drivers for it as well. The only option in
the preferred recording device is "Vinyl AC'97 Audio (WAVE)". The MIC
is not muted, but the windows soundrecorded fails to pick anything up.
Microphone works in win98se system, though.
