My computer does not recognize the microphone.
I am using XP Pro. When I open the Volume control. the
microphone's button panel is gray while other buttons in
the panel are green.

How can activate the microphone ?

Thank you

First check that your microphone works by plugging it in
another computer or audio tape deck. Many microphones are
cheaply made and break quickly, or the cable might have a
broken wire.

In control panel, select "Sound and Audio Devices" and
select the "Voice" tab. Make sure that under "Sound
Recording" the Default Device is selected to be your
microphone port. Most PC's have a microphone port and
a "line-in" port. On that same tab is a handy "Test
hardware" feature that detects microphones and determines
whether a digital audio signal is present. Under the
volume button is a volume slider, a select check box and,
for some sound cards, a "Mic Boost" selection.

Good luck.
