Hi
For some reason my microphone (built in laptop mic) has
taken to a perminent on state. When i'm at the login
screen stage the mic is off but as soon as i log on the
mic goes online and i hear everything a say in stereo.

I've tried looking through the services (via services.msc
and msconfig) and i see nothing out of the ordinary.
Additionally this suddenly began when i was using wordXP,
though i hadn't got speech recog. installed at the time.

Hehe
well i have done this, but i only intended it to be a
stopgap measure, there is obviously a problem and i would
like to diagnose and fix it to insure it doesn't grow
into something bigger. additionally my WinTVUSB requires
the microphone jack for its audio input, hence i would
have to keep muteing the microphone everytime i stopped
using the TV :(.

If anyone knows what the hell is happening please post!

Why do you think it's a stop gap measure? You can use your computer as a PA if you want, just most of us prefer to have the mic muted for playback.

Thats not the point, the point is that there is a problem
and i want to fix it, it may be only a small
inconvenience but if i leave it unfixxed it may develop
to become a severe problem.

Please no more 'use mute' suggestions, i want top repair
the problem not ignore it.

There is no problem. You mute the mic if you don't want to hear it. If you do then you don't. Where is there a problem. It's working exactly as one would expect. It's doing what you are telling it too. How is that a problem. Most of us don't want to hear the mic so we mute it.

What the hell do you expect from it.

Mic on = not muted
Mike off = muted.

So you better start making proper posts. What do you expect to be happening? What the hell goes through your head (ie what mental schema are you using if you prefer the language of psychology). I can't see what you are thinking. This is so simple.
