I have looked through Microsoft Knowledge Base and Usenet groups -
Office, XP - for a solution to the problem of a perfectly working
microphone one day and the next day Windows cannot detect voice. Many
people seem to have this problem and some solutions have worked, e.g.
install an older version of the soundcard driver, correct corrupted
HKEY letters in the registry, turnoff speech recognition in Office and
XP and reinstall, and so on.
None of these solutions has worked for me, so I am posting this in the
hope that there are more possible solutions out there.
Thanks, Keith

I don't know if I have the answer to your problem or not. I do know a
microphone simply plugs into the soundcard or motherboard depending on
the model of your computer. If the soundcard is working and recognized,
the microphone should work. It's not another 'device' in so far as the
computer is concerned.

I would play around with the sound recorder to test the microphone
first (start, run, sndrec32), If you can record sound that way, then
you should be able to use it via Office & Speech Recognition.

Also check the sound properties/microphone...ensure the mic isn't muted
or anything.

Best of luck.
