I have bought two mics now in the vain hope of getting my line in mic
connections to work. I have the option of pluggin them into 2 line in
jack ports in the back of my PC tower. When i do both do not work. No
errors, nothing. However the mic in my usb camera works fine! Why
doesn't the mic work via a standard line in jack?

I have some Nvida nForce stuff installed and has a list of the hardware
i usually use (msn, skype etc...).
Using the voice test software for troubleshooting MSN, the usb camera
works fine but cannot get the mic to work whatever input i select!
Running xp fully patched.
Looking in computer management there is no driver issues (nothing with
an error against it anyway).

Not sure what other info to give but really need some help!

Did you "select" the microphone in the "recording" section of the
volume control mixer?

Yeah, if you look within Nforce control panel - it is set as microphone
(there is another option for line in which i have tried as well). When
trying out these different settings would I need to reboot for them to
take effect?

:I don't know anything about the Nforce control panel, and I don't know if the controls interact with Windows panel. The settings I was talking about are the ones in Windows sound mixer/panel.
