When I try to print an MHTML file from the print command on the context menu,
the file opens in MS Word instead of opening a print dialog. I'm using
Windows XP Home Edition with all latest updates from Microsoft Update.

In Windows Explorer, go to Tools > Folder Options > File Types;
highlight the entry in the list of registered file types for MHTML and
click the "Advanced" button. You should see 3 listed actions: Edit,
Print, and open. Select "print" and click the Edit button.

The entry in the "action" line should be
&Print

The entry in the "Application used to perform action" line should be
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\msohtmed.exe" /p %1
(be sure to use quotes as shown and adjust path as appropriate for your
installation)

The box to "Use DDE" should be checked.

The entry in the "Application" line should be
msohtmed

The entry in the "Topic" line should be
System

The "DDE Message" and "DDE Application Not Running" lines should be left
blank

Lem,

The information you listed is precisely what I have listed for the extension
MHTML and for MHT. I didn't have to change anything, but I reentered the
information just to make sure.

I still get the same result. The file opens in MS Word.

Have you tried printing an MHTML (or MHT) file from its context menu on your
computer? I would appreciate it if you could verify that it works on your
computer.

Thanks

Curiouser and curiouser. Did your system *ever* open the print dialog
when you right-clicked and selected print for MHT or MHTL files? If so,
what changed?

I don't use MHT or MHTL files, but the association for printing those
file types is the same as the association for printing HTM and HTML
files. I right-clicked on an HTML files and the print dialog opened.
After your second post, I searched my hard drive and found a few MHT
files. Right-clicking on these does, indeed, open MS Word instead of
the print dialog.

I'm stumped, but I'm going to cross-post in windowsxp.general. Maybe
someone there will know the answer or know a better place to look for it.

It's been a while since I was successful printing one of these files from its
context menu. My best recollection is that the menu command did open a print
dialog at one time. But I could have been using Windows 98 at that time for
all I know.

I've recently been converting these files to PDF format, and doing so is
much easier from the context menu. That's how I discovered this bug.

Let me know what you find out from your other post.

Thanks
