MHTML Single File Web Pages

I have recently installed Office 2003 and have used Word to save Web pages
in the new MHTML file format with the extension of mht. Can I import these
mht files into FrontPage 2002 and will they display in a browser fine even
though they do not have the htm file extension? All help and explanations
appreciated. I can't find much on this in either FrontPage or Word. I don't
have FrontPage 2003 yet to see if this is addressed.

Thank you, Steve. I read the articles and learned some more. Is the bottom
line here that MHTML is really designed to be used in sending html email and
that MHTML is preferable to HTML because of a reduced file size?

The MHTML embeds the web page content (images) in 1 file (.mht), and saves in a format that does not need further encoding to be
sent by email (so you attachment size will be the .mht file size)

MHTML files embed images, external style sheets etc. into the page (HTML
pages link to these), so the file size is likely to be much bigger, not
smaller. They are used (IMHO not preferable) for email since they do not
need to have an associated web-site storing the images.
