Yes. I have printed probably 20 documents today without a hitch. My
copies suck though. I can't figure it out!
OK in that case it is probably in the CCD unit. This is the unit that travels
left to right in the document scanner and contains the flourescent tube. The
tube itself may be faulty having a dark portion or there may be some
contamination on the lens at the top of the unit (assuming this model has a
lens). You would have to dismantle the scanner and the CCD unit to check this.
My first guess is that the tube is dying, fluorescent tubes can develop dark
areas when they become old. I have rarely seen tubes fail but they do have a
limited life. The tubes are difficult to replace and indeed are not recommended
for replacement so I would be inclined to get the CCD out and see if there is
anywhere that needs cleaning. Brother parts are difficult to get sometimes
unfortunately.
