Sorry, I wasn´t specific:

I want to change fronm inches to mm in the settings of Excel as default

Hi Felix,

I think the settings you are after are actually Windows settings.
Things like image size etc.

You can access them at Start>Settings>Control Panel>Regional and Language
Options
Under the Regional Options tab click on customize and choose metric for the
measurement system.
Make sure you click the Apply buttons before you OK out.

These instructions are for Windows XP. If you are using a different OS then
there may be
some minor differences but the basics should be the same.

Just a note to Martin's suggestion..................

This will affect all Application settings, not just Excel.

It did not change: Do I have to restart?

The interesting thing is that in Word it is metric and in Excel in inches....

Please explain in detail exactly what settings and measurements
you are talking about.

Martin

Thank you for taking the time.

My problem is the following:

My Powerpoint 2oo3 has metric settings for page margins (Centimetres)
My Word 2oo3 has metric settings for page margins (Millimetres)
My Excel 2oo3 has these settings in inches

I would like to have all settings in metric (mm or cm).

I my Windows 2ooo, Control Panel> Regional Options > Numbers > Measurement
System is set to "Metric"

Yet Excel is still in inches ...

Hi Felix,

I can't replicate that behaviour here. (Windows XP and Excel 2000.)

My Excel settings stay linked to the Windows settings and Excel
has no option (or need) to use anything else. My page margins
and image size values etc. adjust with those Windows settings
with no need for a restart when changing them.

Maybe 2003 is different, however, I haven't heard of anything
like that.

All I can suggest is to go through every Tab in Tools>Options
very closely.

Sorry I can't help you further,
Martin

Just one more thought Felix. Are you sure the display isn't
fooling you. In my display boxes the values don't show
their actual designation, they just show 2.5 (not 2.5cm)
If I change my measurement to U.S. it will show as 0.98425
(not 0.98425").

A longshot I know but I have been caught out by
that sort of thing more times than I care to admit.<g>

Strange.

In my Excel 2003 the dialog boxes in Format>Picture>Size show size in cm or "

Gord

Hi Gord,

In 2000 the sizes under Format>Picture>Size show with cm and "
but not in File>Page Setup>Margins (which is where felix mentioned in
his last post). Like I said just a longshot.

Since you are using 2003, is there any setting that might override
the Windows settings?

Regards
Martin

Ooops!

Overlooked the part about "margins".

Excel 2003 does not display cm or " in those dialogs.

Word has its own measurement settings which can be selected under
Tools>Options>General and these override the Windows default settings.

With PowerPoint 2003 I can find no option to change measurement system.

PP 2000 may have an option.........I have never used Office 2000 apps.

Excel does not have this option and must rely on Windows settings.

Sounds like Felix has not yet made the change at Windows Regional and Language
Settings.

If he has and they are not sticking.............??? from this end.
