How does one do away with the Microsoft Messenger program? I have tried to
stop it during start up, but it always finds a way to load. Is it important
to other programs, or can it be done away with through Conrol Panal/Delete
programs?

.
Try this site: http://grc.com/default.htm.
There are a few very and niffty programs here to dissable
unecessary services here... primarily the one u are
looking for... "shootthemessenger".
Also, if you are using Norton AntiVirus - then go to
options / antivirus / under internet, click on Instant
Messenger / to the right uncheck MSN Instant Messenger.
That should cure all your headaches as it did mine.

Hi!
You'll find information on "How to Disable Windows Messenger Service"
at http://www.itc.virginia.edu/desktop/docs/messagepopup/

Also some say that "if you tell your connection to use the Windows
Firewall in WinXP it will prevent Messenger Service spam".

Here are some more topical pages:

I've done it this way
OE ===> Tools/Options/General/ Untick 'Automatically log on to Windows
Messenger'
Rename C:/Program Files/Messenger
to C:/Program Files/Messengerdisabled
