I uprgaded my WIN 98 SE machine to XP Home Edition. I
installed SP1 and even when I clear the check box to
remove Windows Mesenger it appears to remove it and it
removes the short to launch it but yet when I launch
Outlook Express it loads Messenger up as if I never
removed it. Thanks.

Greetings Ellis,

Actually removing Windows Messenger using this method will only remove the shortcuts and
attempt to "hide" the program -- it's still there.

However, you can prevent this from occurring by closing Outlook Express, then downloading and
running this .reg file:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/downloads/stopmessenger_oe.reg
After this, Messenger will no longer load with Outlook Express.

will this really work? I get the pop up for upgrading
windows messenger every time I boot up and would like to
get rid of it.
