When I have tried to update messenger on my gf's pc from version 4.7 to 6.2, the update tells me that it isnt a valid win32 application. As messenger is inbuilt into the system I cannot uninstall it and reinstall the later version. This is causing some frustration as she prefers the newer version and uses the pc mainly for chat. Whats the course of action to allow the update to go ahead?

First 6.2 is NOT WINDOWS MESSENGER, IT IS MSN MESSENGER. Many of us have
both on our computers. The way to accomplish this is to open Windows
Messenger and go to Tools/Options/Preferences and check so that it does not
open or activate upon Boot up, then go to http://messenger.msn.com/ and
download MSN Messenger. Now Open it and go to Tools/Options/General and set
as appropriate for your needs.

Have tried that (getting the same problem) and get the same message for the MSN download. Any more ideas?
