after numerous installs I still cannot get messenger to
stay running. It will sign in and then after 5 -10
seconds dissappear from the taskbar and does not show up
under processes ??? ver 6.2

I am having a similar problem. It will log me in and then
lock up. I have tried reinstalling and the same problem
continues to happen. Can anyone help please?

Hi,

Download and run these .reg files in the affected account:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/downloads/enablewindowsmessenger_user.reg
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/downloads/enablemessenger.reg
After running these, reboot and then try opening Windows Messenger again.

Greetings Berry,

You may need to completely remove your Messenger settings and then try again. To do so,
click Start, then Run,
then type:
%appdata%\microsoft
and click OK.

Right-click the MSN Messenger folder and choose Delete.

Then, start the registry editor by clicking Start, then Run, type "regedit" and then
click OK. Navigate to the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MSNMessenger key (they look
like folders), click the MSNMessenger key, then choose the Edit menu, and then choose Delete.

After all this, restart Messenger and see if the problem has been corrected.

It works now !! All I did was download the latest DirectX
and install. Go figure. not really sure is this correct
the problem but it seems to connect and keep running.
