Messenger Problems: Can I get some answers?

Back on 7/3/06 I put up a post regarding problems I am still experiencing
with Messenger, but I have yet to receive any answers/response. So I guess I
have to start another thread.

I have Msger 7.5. There are two problems I am experiencing:

1) the program keeps stopping. I get a msg that I am logged onto another PC
and that I have to log back on. This happens so many times during a session
that I am loathe to even use the IM. Per instructrions in the previous
thread, I have disabled the Norton virus scans of the program. But it keeps
happening.

2) people see me online via Msger even when my PC isn't even on!

FYI, I have already run I also ran the remove sequence you described in the
previous thread ("RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection
%windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove ") but I get a msg that says "MSN
Messenger 4.7 is not installed on this PC".

If I install the new Live will the previous 7.5 version still be on my pc?
Or does it simply overwrite the previous version?

If I install the new Live, how do I ensure that it DOES NOT become part of
my Start up? **I want control over when the IM runs.**

Thanks for a response.... ???

Hi,
We do monitor these news groups at times. But many times MVP's like
Jonathan Kay or fellow users answer questions.

Looking at your case below. I would try and change my password, and then
use Windows Live Messenger only. You may have the case that your password
has been compromised and/or you have logged into some other computer
somewhere at some point and that machine is not logging in as you.

Hi James,

I will change the password on the account in question. However, as I
explained in another thread, I am extremely security conscious about logging
in from non-family PCs making I do not access sensitive areas or leave
"footprints", so I am a little skeptical about someone else "hijacking" my
account. (Also, there are no unusual message traffic in the account.)

Meanwhile, I have some questions regarding M-Live:
1) How do I ensure that it is NOT in my Start up? I want to make sure it
starts MANUALLY, when I want it to, not when IT wants to.
2) Does M-Live simply overwrite the current version of Msger (in this case I
have 7.5) and thus keep your contact list, or is it best to totally remove
the 7.5 & start from scratch? If it's the latter, is there some way of
preserving my contact list?

Thanks for the feedback,

~SubMariner~
