I have the same problem as several have indicated here. After SP2 was
installed clicking IM to got to my hotmail opens Outlook Express which is
useless.

If anyone finds a solution I would appreciate the
answer.

I have been told it is because SP2 resets Messenger to its default.
A last resort I am using is to go to my Hotmail box with Internet Explorer,
copy the web page address and create a short cut onto my desktop.

At least I can get to the right place. The only other thing to do is to
reinstall, I have been told.
It is hard for me to believe Microsoft would do this to its on product.

Greetings Richard,

The Windows Messenger version within SP2 does not have support for Add-ins which is required
for Hotmail support within Windows Messenger. As such, in order to get this functionality
back, you'll either need to downgrade to the previous version of Windows Messenger
(http://www.microsoft.com/windows/messenger/download.asp) or use MSN Messenger instead
(http://messenger.msn.com/Download).
